Mekong trip

It is Tuesday March 6, we are in Ben Tre. We got down here yesterday AM after an hour drive from Saigon at 4:00AM. The country side is much more quiet, and the breeze is much more cooler. We stop at one of the smaller village and met with a few people who work for the Red Cross to see if they can help us obtaining permissions for our next trip in this general area. They were very helpful and it looked very promising. We moved on down to Bentre afterward and planed to stay here for another night then tomorrow morning go convent 30 Kilometers away to visit their clinic.
Here in Bentre we are staying with Tien's family, this is her birthplace. We met with another Red Cross group here, they have small clinic that provide free medial services to the poor using mainly Eastern medical practices and medicines. They have some western medicines in their cabinet but no equipments nor physician to perform any diagnostic. They ask for nebulizer and portable EKG machines to do some basic treatment and diagnostic. We ask them to send us a list of things they need and we will work on it when we get back to the state. They will also send us information on the current diseases most seen here and will work with us, via internet email, to see about getting diagnostic equip for the practice of western med. Most medicine practiced that we have seen, is eastern......we know little about that. They are eager for education. More to follow....gotta shop!
